"The Donnybrook Fiddle and Step Dance Competition is a non-profit organization that adheres to one simple rule - the preservation of old time Canadian Fiddling and Step Dancing. This is accomplished in an atmosphere that transcends the generations by sharing the love for this musical genre. In many ways, this weekend is reminiscent of friendly gatherings of relatives and neighbours, long before the time of satellite TV, Net Flix, iPods, text messaging and twitter. Rather than sitting around in someone's kitchen - the chairs are drawn and everyone gathers around someone's awning - playing a few fiddle tunes into the early hours of morning." |
