CLASS B 
JUNIOR VEGETABLES & FRUIT 2026 
 

(up to and including 17 years of age)
COMMITTEE: Sophie Hicks, Melanie McCallum, Lloyd Elliott
Entries Accepted: Thursday October 8, 2026, 7 pm to 9 pm and Friday, October 9, 2026, 9 am to 12 noon. 
Articles must not be removed until closing, Monday October 12, 2026 at 5:00 pm.

Hints to prepare vegetables/fruit to improve scoring:
● Choose medium sized vegetables/fruit.
● Choose regular shaped vegetables/fruit.
● Choose specimens as close to the same shape as possible.
● Choose blemish free specimens.
● Cut off tops leaving about 1'' where possible.
● Clean vegetables/fruit for display. Unwashed, but can be cleaned with soft brush or cloth. Be careful not to cause scrub marks/blemishes as the fruit/vegetable will rot faster.
● You may peel onions down 1 to 2 layers for appearances.
● Leave some stem on pumpkins, squash and tomatoes.
● Time planting to suit fair date.

Prizes: 1st: $4, 2nd: $3, 3rd: $2

1. Longest husked ear of corn (any variety)
2. Two (2) red potatoes on a plate - funny shaped
3. Tiniest Green Pepper (2)
4. Largest Zucchini
5. Tallest Sunflower, head, stalk and roots attached
6. Sunflower - biggest head
7. Smallest Field Pumpkin (1)
8. Largest Tomato (must be firm) (1)
9. Table turnips (2)
10. Five (5) Gourds - funny shapes
11. Most oddly shaped vegetable or fruit. Labeled and given a funny name.
12. Any other home grown vegetable not listed above. Labeled - 3 of the same

Most points sections 1-12 Prize: $10
Where prizes are given on points: 1st - 4 points, 2nd - 3 points, 3rd - 1 point.

Paint and/or accessories
13. Decorated Pumpkin not carved, ages 3-5
14. Decorated Pumpkin not carved, ages 6-9
15. Decorated Pumpkin not carved, ages 10-11
16. Decorated Pumpkin not carved, ages 12-18

SPECIALTY CLASS:
Prizes: 1st: $6, 2nd: $4, 3rd: $3
17. Create a scarecrow from 5-10 fruits and vegetables using skewers and/or toothpicks to build it. Max 12" x 12".
18. Most unusual baby pumpkin - colour not orange but not painted.
19. Create a harvest basket of fruits and vegetables, home grown.

No more than 15 items, display in any container - no larger than 24"x24".
